How to Work With a Staffing Company in a Remote World
Tap the Power of the

Businesses across the country have been working with staffing companies for decades to find exceptional talent, access temporary and contract workers, find fill-ins for last-minute absences, and to improve hiring strategies. But in mid-March of 2020, America was turned upside down overnight by massive stay-at-home orders and business closures. However, despite that staggering change, staffing companies are still up and running and serving America's businesses, working around the clock to supply companies with the employees they desperately need right now and connecting people to real job opportunities.

The biggest difference you'll find if you partner with a staffing agency right now is the need to work remotely with that partner. But, if you follow these tips, you can build a successful partnership with a staffing company in a remote world.

Get Comfortable With Technology

Since you can't meet face-to-face with potential staffing partners right now, you will have to rely on technology. Fortunately, there are many user-friendly video conferencing software platforms that facilitate this process. One of the most popular platforms today is Zoom, which is very easy to use and offers exceptional call quality. It also has accessibility features like closed captioning and automated transcripts.

Learn as Much as You Can About a Potential Staffing Partner

Any potential business relationship requires research, and in a remote world, this is still true. First, research the company's strengths and weaknesses and find out as much as you can about their recruiting team and back-office support team.

When you find a company that seems like a good fit, talk to them about their recruiting process and how they have modified their hiring process during these challenging times. By understanding how they have overcome their own challenges, you can get a window into the ways they will help you overcome yours.

Define Expectations up Front

Your business needs are your top priority - and they will be the priority for your staffing partner - but clear expectations need to be defined up front. Be honest about the results you are looking for and the expectations you have of the staffing company.

Do be aware, however, that you may need to adjust your expectations in this current environment. Listen to what the staffing company says about the current state of your market and arrive at a mutually acceptable timeline for results. And be aware that your participation in the process can yield faster results. The sooner you can provide the staffing company with updated job descriptions, pay rates, etc., the faster they can get to work.

Be Responsive

Everyone who is working right now is overwhelmed. Parents are expected to work full days while also entertaining and homeschooling their children while worrying about their loved ones who live outside the home. If parents must work outside the home, they have the added stress of worrying about exposure to COVID-19.

However, if you need workers for your company, you must prioritize communication with your staffing partner despite these outside stressors. The more open you are with communication, and the more responsive you are to their questions and needs, the faster you can achieve your goals.

It is also important to provide real-time feedback to your staffing partner. When your recruiting team sends you resumes and candidate profiles, respond quickly with constructive feedback to help them refine their searches.
