If a hiring manager asks you this rather pointed question, here's how to strike the right balance between desperate and unattainable:
- If you're interviewing with a competitor: Explain how you're actively exploring options within your industry - but that you're particularly excited about this opportunity.
- If you're interviewing for jobs in diverse fields/industry: To avoid sounding unfocused/noncommittal, find the common thread that links the jobs you're interviewing for - and make that the focus of your response.
- If you're not interviewing anywhere else: To keep from sounding desperate, it's best to keep your response general and explain the types of roles and employers you're targeting.
