Safety Tip of the Month: Stay Safe With Electrical Cords
Blog 3 Image

From power tools to technology tools, most of us need to plug in to work. Used improperly, however, electrical cords present a hazard in the workplace. Here’s how to power up and stay safe:

  1. Arrange desks and equipment to avoid running electrical cords in traffic paths.
  2. Prevent fire hazards by using power strips correctly. Never use an extension cord to attach a power strip to a wall outlet, and never link one power strip to another.
  3. Make sure the cords on your equipment are certified to meet U.S. safety standards. Look for the UL (Underwriters Laboratory) label.

If you spot an electrical cord hazard on the job, notify your assignment supervisor immediately.
